ABOUT: Aly’s Lion came to Akindale through the Beyond the Wire program with a left front bone chip in 2018. After arriving, he completed his rehabilitation with us and was given the time he needed to recover.

As we got to know Aly, we found that he was a more complicated ride who required an experienced, professional rider. With his physical limitations and the level of rider he required, we ultimately determined that a riding career was not the best path for him and that permanent retirement in our sanctuary was the right choice.

Aly took some time to truly come out of his shell. He could be a little guarded and particular when he first arrived, and earning his trust took patience and understanding. Over time, as he settled into a consistent routine and became comfortable with the people and horses around him, we began to see a much softer side of Aly. 

Today, he is thriving in sanctuary and has fully settled into life with his herd. He enjoys the freedom of spending his days outside, surrounded by his friends, without the expectations of a riding career. He has found a place where he can be himself, live at his own pace, and receive the individualized care he needs. For Aly, sanctuary has given him exactly what he needed, a safe, permanent home where he can simply enjoy being a horse for the rest of his life.
