ABOUT: Gypsy Gent has a special connection to Akindale because he was bred right here at the farm! As a homebred Thoroughbred, his story with Akindale began long before he officially joined our sanctuary herd.

In 2020, Gypsy Gent was briefly restarted under saddle to see if he might be suited for a second career after racing. Unfortunately, he experienced some lameness issues, and his naturally hot temperament made him a little too much horse for the average rider. After evaluating his needs and considering what would be best for him long-term, the decision was made to officially retire him to the sanctuary.

At Akindale, we believe every horse deserves the opportunity to live a comfortable life, regardless of whether they can be ridden or have another career. For Gypsy Gent, retirement meant leaving the expectations of a second career behind and settling into the lifestyle he deserved.

Today, Gypsy Gent enjoys life at the sanctuary alongside the other Thoroughbreds who call Akindale home. With open fields, familiar faces, and the freedom to spend his days simply being a horse, he no longer has to worry about what comes next. His story is a reminder that not every horse needs a new job after racing. Sometimes, the best second chance is simply a safe place to call home for life.

We’re proud that Gypsy Gent’s story began at Akindale and that we can continue to provide him with a home where his comfort and well-being come first. He will always have a place here!
