ABOUT: Hiddenite came to Akindale in 2016 after retiring sound from her racing career. She entered our retraining program and was successfully restarted under saddle, progressing to walk, trot, and canter.

While Hiddenite showed that she was capable of a second career, it became clear that she required a professional-level rider to bring out her best. Unfortunately, she did not have the athletic ability or talent to make her a suitable long term prospect for a professional, and her need for an experienced ride made her less appropriate for an amateur home.

Rather than continuing to pursue a riding career that wasn't the right fit, we made the decision to retire Hiddenite to our sanctuary, where she has been happily enjoying life with her herd ever since.

Hiddenite is a wonderful example of why Thoroughbred aftercare is not one-size fits all. While not every horse is suited for a second career under saddle, each deserves a safe place to land and the opportunity to simply be a horse.

Today, Hiddenite enjoys the freedom of our large pastures, the companionship of her herd, and the security of knowing she has a home for life at Akindale.
