ABOUT: Honorable Ruler's journey has taken him through several chapters, but today he is right where he belongs.

Following his racing career, Honorable Ruler made his way to ReRun, which at the time was based in Virginia. After enjoying a couple of years off, he began the retraining process, but it was ultimately decided that retirement would be the best option for him. He then came to Akindale, where he was given the opportunity to enjoy life away from the racetrack.

Honorable Ruler was eventually adopted out as a companion horse to a home in Virginia, where we hoped he would spend the rest of his days enjoying a quiet retirement. Unfortunately, that wasn't how his story unfolded.

In 2023, we received a concerning call from a neighbor reporting that horses on the property where Honorable Ruler was living were being neglected. Without hesitation, we made the trip down to Virginia to bring him home.

Thankfully, we were able to get to Honorable Ruler before his condition deteriorated further. He returned to Akindale needing some extra care and groceries, and over the following year, we worked to help him regain the weight and condition he had lost.

Today, Honorable Ruler is once again enjoying the life he deserves, surrounded by his herd and receiving the care and attention he needs. His story is a reminder of why our commitment to these horses doesn't end when they leave our farm. Sometimes, even the best intentions don't lead to the forever home we hope for, and being there when a horse needs a safe place to return to is an important part of aftercare.

Honorable Ruler now has the security of knowing he will always have a place at Akindale, where he can spend his days simply being a horse.
