ABOUT: Mo Fuzzy Cat came to Akindale in 2019 through the Take the Lead program after her previous owner, who had used her as a broodmare, was no longer financially able to provide for her care.

When Mo first arrived, she appeared sound and we were hopeful that she could transition into a second career as a riding horse. She entered our retraining program, where we began working with her and evaluating her potential for life beyond breeding.

Unfortunately, as her training progressed, it became clear that something wasn't quite right. Further veterinary evaluation revealed severe arthritis in her neck, which caused her significant pain and discomfort while being ridden. Although she had initially appeared sound, it was evident that continuing under saddle would not be in her best interest.

Rather than asking her to work through the discomfort, we made the decision to retire Mo permanently to our sanctuary, where she could enjoy life without the physical demands of a riding career.

Today, Mo Fuzzy Cat enjoys the simple pleasures of sanctuary life, spending her days outdoors with her herd. While we had originally hoped to find her a second career, sometimes the best thing we can do for a horse is recognize when retirement is the right choice.

At Akindale, Mo has a permanent home where her comfort and happiness will always come first.
