ABOUT: Mr. Merenda's journey with Akindale is a reminder that not every second career goes as planned, but every horse deserves a place to call home.

Mr. Merenda was adopted from Akindale in 2009, beginning a new chapter of his life outside of our farm. Unfortunately, in 2011, he was returned to us due to ongoing lameness issues that made it difficult for him to continue as a riding horse.

While we always hope our horses will go on to enjoy successful second careers, their comfort and long term well being will always come first. With his soundness concerns, Mr. Merenda was given the opportunity to retire and enjoy a quieter life in our sanctuary.

Today, Mr. Merenda spends his days enjoying the freedom of our pastures and the companionship of his herd. Although his adoption did not turn out as originally hoped, his return to Akindale meant he would always have a safe place to land.

At Akindale, our commitment to our horses extends well beyond adoption. For horses like Mr. Merenda, that means providing a permanent home where they can enjoy the retirement they deserve.
