ABOUT: Muy Guapo means "very handsome" in Spanish, and that is exactly what he is! Born right here at Akindale, Guapo has spent much of his life on the farm and has become a familiar face to everyone, especially our Sanctuary Manager, Miguel, who proudly considers him his favorite horse.

After beginning his racing career, Guapo was retired due to a bowed tendon. He spent several years enjoying time off before we decided to give him another opportunity at a second career. In 2020, we brought him into our retraining program to see if he might be suitable for adoption.

On the ground, Guapo was an absolute gentleman. He loved being groomed, handled, and receiving daily attention. He was the kind of horse who genuinely enjoyed having a job and spending time with people. Under saddle, however, Guapo had a bit more enthusiasm than we had hoped. While he was a pleasure to work with on the ground, he could be quite hot to ride.

Given his age and the fact that he would require a particularly experienced rider, we knew finding the right adopter would be a challenge. Rather than continuing to pursue a riding career, we made the decision to retire him to our sanctuary.

Today, Guapo enjoys life in the fields with his friends, although he certainly hasn't lost his love for attention. He remains one of Miguel's favorites, and it's easy to see why. With his handsome looks and lovable personality, Guapo has a way of making himself unforgettable.

While his second career may not have worked out as planned, Guapo will always have a home at Akindale, the very place where his story began.
