ABOUT: From competing on some of racing’s biggest stages to enjoying a peaceful retirement at Akindale, Nimitz Class has certainly earned his place in the sanctuary.

A multiple stakes winner with an impressive racing career, Nimitz Class earned more than $770,000 and captured six stakes victories. Among his many accomplishments, he competed in the prestigious 2024 Pegasus World Cup (Grade 1) and was recognized as Pennsylvania’s Champion Older Male in 2023.

Following his retirement from racing, Nimitz Class entered the Take the Lead program before transitioning to ReRun Thoroughbred Adoption. After evaluating him, ReRun determined that he would be best suited for permanent retirement rather than a second career as a riding horse.

In the spring of 2025, Nimitz Class arrived at Akindale to begin the next chapter of his life. With some wear and tear in his ankles from his racing career, the decision was made to give him the comfortable, lifelong retirement he deserved.

When Nimitz Class first arrived, he was quite high-strung and needed time to adjust to his new surroundings. However, as the months passed and he settled into sanctuary life, we began to see a completely different side of him. Today, he has become an incredibly sweet horse who seems to truly appreciate his slower paced lifestyle.

After years of competing at the highest levels, Nimitz Class now spends his days enjoying the simple pleasures of retirement, surrounded by friends and with no expectations other than to be a horse.
