ABOUT: Pays to Dream certainly lived up to his name during his racing career! A talented and accomplished Thoroughbred, he made quite a name for himself on the track before an unfortunate injury brought his promising career to an early end.

Born in 2004, Pays to Dream was a multiple stakes winner who earned an impressive $377,741 from just 12 starts, including five victories. One of his greatest accomplishments came in May 2008 when he captured the prestigious Grade 2 Dixie Stakes at Pimlico by an incredible 7½ lengths. Trained by David Donk and ridden by Javier Castellano, he looked to have a very bright future ahead of him.

Unfortunately, just a few weeks later, his racing career came to an abrupt end. While finishing third in the Grade 1 Manhattan Handicap at Belmont Park in June 2008, Pays to Dream suffered a fractured sesamoid in his right front leg. At only four years old, the injury ended his racing career.

Following his retirement from racing, Pays to Dream eventually found his way to Akindale, where he was given the opportunity to enjoy a well deserved retirement.

Although his time on the racetrack was cut short, Pays to Dream had already accomplished more than many horses do in an entire career. Today, he enjoys the simple pleasures of sanctuary life, surrounded by his herd with plenty of room to roam and no expectations beyond simply being a horse.

Pays to Dream's story is a reminder of just how quickly a racing career can change and why lifelong aftercare is so important. While his racing days may be behind him, his future at Akindale is secure, and we are proud to provide him with the retirement he has earned.
