ABOUT: Sir Dunston has spent much of his life doing something pretty special: teaching people how to ride and helping them fall in love with horses!

Adopted from Akindale in 2012, Sir Dunston went on to become a beloved lesson horse, where he spent the next decade introducing countless riders to the wonderful world of horses. Fun fact: he actually spent those years at the same barn as fellow Akindale resident Cliff Diver! The two helped teach generations of riders, building confidence, creating memories, and sharing their love of horses with so many people.

By 2022, however, the years of carrying riders and working in a lesson program had begun to take their toll. As the wear and tear of his long career caught up with him, Sir Dunston was no longer able to comfortably continue his job. He was returned to Akindale, where he could finally enjoy a well-earned retirement.

Today, Sir Dunston spends his days in our sanctuary, with no lessons to teach, no riders to carry, and no expectations other than enjoying life.

Horses like Sir Dunston hold a special place in our hearts. He spent years giving people the gift of riding, often being the very horse who sparked someone's lifelong love for these incredible animals. Now it's his turn to be cared for.
