ABOUT: True Brit, affectionately known as Woody, came to Akindale in 2023 after his previous owner was having difficulty finding him a suitable new home. Woody had reportedly been involved in several accidents related to becoming overstimulated, making it challenging to find the right person for him. However, he also had quite an impressive background, having successfully competed in First Level dressage and proving himself to be a talented horse under saddle.
When Woody arrived at Akindale, our hope was to evaluate him, better understand his needs, and eventually find him a suitable home through our adoption program. We knew he had plenty of experience and ability, and we wanted to give him the opportunity to find the right partner.
Unfortunately, due to changes in our training staff, we weren't able to give Woody the consistent evaluation and training he needed. Rather than rush the process or place him in a situation that might not be the right fit, we decided to let him settle into life in our sanctuary.
Now that Woody is in his twenties, we feel that the best decision is to allow him to remain at Akindale and enjoy his retirement. After years of work and a successful dressage career, he has certainly earned the opportunity to spend his days simply being a horse.
And what a personality he has! Woody is easily one of the cutest horses on the entire property. He has the most expressive ears, which somehow manage to point farther forward than those of any other horse I've ever encountered! It's almost impossible to look at him without smiling.
He is also incredibly friendly and always one of the first to come up and greet you in the field. Whether you're bringing treats, offering scratches, or simply stopping by to say hello, Woody is always happy to see a familiar face or make a new friend.
While Woody's journey to Akindale may not have originally been intended as a permanent retirement, we couldn't be happier to have him as part of our sanctuary family.
